A New Take on How to Get to Heaven – Matthew 18:3-5

Playing with four of my grandchildren this week is changing my perspective on how we get to heaven. Two of them are beside me now, so my observations are definitely fresh. Here’s what I’m learning.

IMG_0399Jesus said

“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me'” (Matthew 18:2 NIV).

The disciples were concerned about who would be the greatest, and Jesus reprimanded them by telling them they needed to change and take the low position of a child – or they wouldn’t make it to  heaven at all. Wow.

Welcoming a child

It’s almost too profound for words – a strong warning. If I don’t change and become like a little child, I will NEVER enter God’s kingdom. He also said that if I welcome a little child, I’m welcoming him.

I love the idea of welcoming Jesus into my every day, so I need to get back to my grandchildren.
