No one else is like me, I know, but I tend to hold too high an opinion of myself at times. These verses in Psalm 14 set me straight.
“The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt. There is no one who does good, not even one” (Psalm 14:2-3 NIVUK).
The seven verses of this psalm list the works of evildoers, but in a couple of them there are phrases embedded that provide hope. Verse 5 reminds us “God is present in the company of the righteous.” Verse 6 tells us the Lord is the refuge of the poor. It’s not all bad news, God’s presence is an available shelter for the needy. Remember, none of us are good enough. We’re all needy.
I understand the word salvation is the name given to God’s Son, Jesus (Yeshua). The last verse calls for salvation, or Jesus, to come.
“Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion. When the Lord restores his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!” (verse 7).
