How to Know God, and more – Proverbs 2

The first five verses of Proverbs 2 actually show us how we can find the knowledge of God. That’s pretty crazy, right? All that he is – so far beyond what we can imagine, and these few words will tell us how to know him. Amazing.

Look at how chapter 2 starts. “My son, if …”teacher.hortongrou .free stockxchng.

The first two words show the speaker feels a close relationship with his listener. Then there’s that word “if.” I imagine an aged teacher with his arm over the shoulders of his student to make sure he’s got his attention. I’m no master grammatician, but it’s clear I’m about to hear something that’s conditional. For instance, “If this is true, then that is true.”

“My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God” (Proverbs 2:1-5 ESV).

That’s a promise.

The remaining verses list the wonderful outcomes of following this course, but I’ll let you search through those yourself. Right now my mind is full of this one benefit: I can know God!
