Will God give me what I ask for? – Psalm 21

I was bored with Psalm 21 when I first got into it. I read that God is doing amazing things for a king, but what does that have to do with me? It just wasn’t drawing me in, until I got to verse 4.

“He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—length of days, for ever and ever” (Psalm 21:4 NIV).

Kathy Sheldon DavisThis chapter is labeled “A Psalm of David,” so is he talking about himself or a descendant? It’s a good discussion question, but I’ll stick with what’s written in this chapter. What I’m seeing highlighted for me personally is that he asked and God gave it. God gave a man what he asked for.

“You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips” (verse 2).

“Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence. For the king trusts in the Lord; through the unfailing love of the Most High he will not be shaken” (verses 6-7).

Like the king, I will keep trusting in the Lord. My joy is knowing he is with me, and because of his love that never fails I will not be shaken.
