My contribution to Jesus Talked to Me Today: True Stories of Children’s Encounters with Angels, Miracles, and God, compiled by James Stuart Bell and published by Bethany House Publishers, is titled “Jesus in My Pocket.” It tells how as a young child I found Jesus as my true friend when the doll I carried in my coat pocket and hid in my school desk failed to be the companion I’d hoped for. Also included are other true stories from more than forty authors.

I was happy to contribute to Seeking His Presence: 30 Devotions Featuring the Timeless Art of Warner Sallman, since Artist Warner Sallman’s most well-known painting Head of Christ held a special place in my childhood home.
The publisher, referring to Head of Christ, states “this painting alone has been reproduced hundreds of millions of times in various forms all over the globe. It has brought comfort in war zones, on death beds, and in everyday trials. Art has great power, and Sallman’s art speaks as faithfully to us today as it has to others for many decades.”
Each devotion coincides with one of his 30 best loved paintings, enhancing moments of meditation. It’s great to keep Seeking His Presence handy on your side table or to give as a cherished gift for a friend.
