Meet Kathy

The Bible in my life

My motivation for studying the Bible hasn’t always been the noblest. I thought reading it would elevate me in God’s sight. I honestly believed I could follow the rules and be better than other people, and this would please him.

He is so patient with me.

Can you imagine how jarring it was when I read that when Jesus flung his whip in the temple, he was upset about people like me—people who shoved God aside and made traditions, lifestyle choices and rules supreme over all?

I’d never seen this before, that how I measure up isn’t what impresses him—it’s the intent of my heart. He desires I be fixated on him only, and not on a false object of worship.

He wants me to recognize him as the hero of my story.

His disciple John wrote:

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true . . . Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

1 John 5:20-21 ESV

That’s why I embrace the Bible as I do. I want to know him. To discover the answers to my longings in him. To stay close to the one who died for me in the assurance I’m not misinterpreting his message or bowing to a false ideology.

I hope my blog posts, devotions, and other projects nurture your appreciation for the Bible, as well. If you think they might, you are welcome join me on this journey by following my blog. Look below to sign up.

At home

Jerry Davis has been my one-and-only husband for more than four decades. We have five children of our own and parented foster children for more than ten years. My writing is flavored by the kids who taught me even more about loving others freely and keeping rules in their proper place.

More fascinating stuff

  • I assist Jerry with marketing his handcrafted knives at JerryDavisKnives.com and on social media.
  • Retired from serving on the conference staff with Oregon Christian Writers is a cherished memory.
  • Weekly lunches with my multigenerational family members are times I cherish.
  • You might also find me working in the garden, relaxing by a campfire, playing with a child, exploring new cultures, mentoring and editing for other writers, belting out old hymns, or watching football games with my family.

. . . in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.”

Philippians 3:8-9 ESV
